About DR. GOUR SUNDAR MITRA THAKUR

I am an AI researcher-educator with 18 years of teaching and R&D experience. After a B.Tech and M.Tech in CSE, I completed my PhD at NIT Durgapur with the thesis Intelligent Systems in Manifold Decision Making. I currently serve as Professor in CSE (AIML) at Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College, Durgapur. My work spans end-to-end ML/DL and LLM pipelines—from problem framing and data strategy to deployment—targeting socially important domains: biology/medicine, agriculture, environment, and manufacturing. I am presently exploring Consciousness & AI, focusing on computational perspectives of awareness and their implications for alignment, safety, and interpretability. I have 30+ peer-reviewed publications across journals, conferences, and book chapters, and review for Knowledge-Based Systems, Applied Soft Computing, International Journal of Fuzzy Systems, and Frontiers in Oncology. I collaborate closely with clinicians, scientists, and industry partners, and mentor student teams to translate ideas into measurable impact. Interests & strengths: ML/DL (TensorFlow, PyTorch), LLMs/GenAI, optimization & evolutionary algorithms, computer vision, NLP & time series, responsible/transparent AI, reproducible research, and interdisciplinary problem-solving.
